For several years now, the British Development, Concepts and Doctrine Centre (DCDC) and the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning have been cooperating on various projects, especially in the field of future analysis. This close cooperation is also supported by a good relationship between the respective heads of service. For this reason, Air Vice Marshal Fin Monahan travelled to Köpenick with a small delegation, as the British officer has been appointed the new director of the DCDC just a few weeks ago.
His predecessor, Major General Darrell Amison, had strongly encouraged him to visit the planning office because of the excellent cooperation between the two offices so far, said Monahan. During his military career in the British Royal Air Force, the fighter pilot had already been stationed in Germany and so he was able to brush up on his language skills during the visit to Köpenick. In addition to getting to know each other personally, the focus of the visit with the head of the Bundeswehr Office for Defence Planning, Major General Wolfgang Gäbelein, was also on a professional exchange on current topics and the project outline for another cooperation project.
Two years ago, the two offices had already jointly prepared a study on the topic of "Human Augmentation". It is now planned to jointly deal with another topic area in order to make the best possible use of the different perspectives and expertise of the two institutions. Both services have a great interest in the results of a study on the topic of "Energy", as the findings will play a major role ranging from the further design of armed forces, all the way to practical influences on armament projects.
