Directorate IV – Scientific Support and Interoperability

Directorate IV – “Scientific Support and Interoperability” – works on behalf of decision-makers to answer complex questions raised within the Bundeswehr. To this end, it uses ITInformationstechnik-based methods and procedures, generating a well-founded, transparent and reliable basis for decision-making. The experts in Directorate IV regularly present their findings in transparent, visual forms such as demonstrators, models, simulations and architectures.

For Directorate IV, interoperability means enhancing cooperation within the Bundeswehr and with our allies. For this purpose, Directorate IV builds on the foundations for Bundeswehr and NATO leadership, administers all of the Bundeswehr’s standardisation agreements with NATO and coordinates the tasks of terminology work in its role as guardian of the binding Bundeswehr terminology and list of abbreviations. Directorate IV provides all members of the Bundeswehr with the results of terminology work through databases.

In addition, Directorate IV represents Germany’s positions in various multinational bodies and is permanently represented at the USUnited States Joint Staff directorate in Suffolk, Virginia.
