“If you want to get to your destination, you have to take a first step.” In January 2021, the participants of the International General/Admiral Staff Officer Course arrived in Hamburg. Officers from different countries, cultures and religions come together here. Sponsors and their families are committed to make sure that they arrive in our society.

Colonel Frank Wasgindt, course director of the International General/Admiral Staff Officer Course (IGASOC), welcomed all sponsors and the families of the course participants in the Clausewitz Barracks. On this day, the sponsorships are officially concluded in a familiar atmosphere. Since almost all of the international course participants already knew their sponsors, everyone was in an informal and friendly mood.

Now it is "official". Sponsorships are officially concluded at the sponsors’ evening.

It was quite fitting that a small summer party was planned in the open air afterwards. Enjoying a typical German Bratwurst, none of those present let their mood be spoiled by the lousy Hanseatic weather, but had a good time together. For a few more months, the sponsors will be there to accompany the officers on family and leisure activities. Be it a tour of Hamburg, a visit to the theatre or joint sports events. The enterprises of the sponsorship teams are as individual as the people themselves. There is one goal that unites them all. The sponsors help the foreign officers to find their way around Hamburg and Germany and they practise the German language with them.

The partnerships are established in close cooperation with the association “Freundeskreis Ausbildung ausländischer Offiziere an der Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr e.V.eingetragener Verein”. The association supports the IGASOC both financially and by organising interesting evening events and lectures held by personalities from politics, business and science.
