On 5 May 2023, the Bundeswehr received the last of the 1,850 standard swap bodies it had ordered. The contracts that the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr – BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr) concluded in October and November 2021 were thus properly fulfilled despite the COVID pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
After two years of cooperation between BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr and the manufacturing company, the Bundeswehr now has 950 additional 15-foot standard swap bodies and 900 new 20-foot versions at its disposal. They can be used on trucks with suitable fittings and add to the existing 3,093 swap body containers already used by the Bundeswehr.
And more is yet to come: There are plans to procure another 2,450 standard swap bodies.
Ilse T., a senior government official and the competent legal adviser at BAAINBwBundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr, remarked:
"The procurement of these swap body containers, which play an important role in transportation tasks, is a very good example of the fact that in the past, framework agreements have been a good means to meet crucial demands without delay and that our partners do everything they can to deliver timely – also in times of crisis."
