"I'd never expected to receive this award", she says and looks with pride at the document framed in wood at the wall of her office. Although not during the official ceremony, Brigadier, Medical Corps, Dr Stefan Kowitz presented by proxy the special decoration at MMCCMultinational Medical Coordination Centre/EMCEuropean Medical Command - also in a multinational environment.

A few, individual military personnel from all areas and organisations of NATO are selected each year, who have rendered outstanding services through their commitment and performance, in particular in the context of NATO missions. Special thanks in this context always go to the relatives and families of the decorated soldiers, who share the burdens of serving in NATO and, thus, lay the foundation for the outstanding performance.

From May 2015 to September 2020, Petty Officer Stefanie Hippler served with SHAPESupreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe), a NATO organisation in Belgium.
