The Airbus A330 MRTTMulti Role Tanker Transport (Multi Role Tanker Transport) is the military version of the civilian A330-200 model. It is a twin-jet long-range aircraft designed for the air transport of personnel and materiel and for air refueling.
Location
The Airbus A330 MRTTMulti Role Tanker Transport (Multi Role Tanker Transport) is part of the Multinational Multi Role Tanker Transport Unit (MMU) in Eindhoven. The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Norway and the Czech Republic jointly fund the procurement and operation of nine Airbus A330 MRTTMulti Role Tanker Transport (Multi Role Tanker Transport). Four of the nine aircraft will be permanently based at the military part of Cologne Bonn Airport. All MMU aircraft are certified in the Netherlands.
Tasks
With the delivery of the new Airbus A330 MRTTMulti Role Tanker Transport (Multi Role Tanker Transport) transport aircraft between 2020 and 2024, the MMU has taken over extensive air transport responsibilities from the participating nations. The aircraft and their multinational crews are on standby for air refueling and air transport operations as well as strategic aeromedical evacuation (StratAE) tasks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The operations of the Airbus A330 MRTTMulti Role Tanker Transport (Multi Role Tanker Transport) of the Multinational Multi Role Tanker Transport Fleet (MMFMultinational Multi Role Tanker Transport Fleet) are coordinated by the European Air Transport Command (EATC European Air Transport Command).
