The original ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures alternated between Panama City, Florida (USA) and Mannheim, Germany. For the 18th ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures, the committee chose to make a historical return to Panama City to continue a rich tradition of collaboration and technical discussion. We are pleased to confirm that during this symposium, a total of 201 delegates attended the event. The delegates included, scientists, experts and military personnel from 21 different countries.
126 papers were presented. A variety of social events were put on to allow delegates to meet and discuss the various topics of the day, in an informal setting. The keynote Speaker during the event, was American Strategist, Mr. P.W. Singer, director of the 21st Century Defense Initiative at the Brookings Institution (Washington, USA). Mr. Singer is also noted by foreign policy to be in the top 100 list of global thinkers and was named by the Smithsonian as one of the nations top 100 leading innovators. His speech provided an informative insight into the weaponization of social media.
During the Symposium, there was a visit to the Tyndall Air Force base, where delegates were able to witness some very skillful landing maneuvers from the Air Forces pilots. As well as the NATO sessions, an additional session was organized, to present the initial results of the Super Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration (SHIELDSuper Heavy Improvised Explosive Loading Demonstration).
The 18th ISIEMSInternational Symposium on Interaction of the Effects of Munitions with Structures was a successful and informative event and the committee are looking forward to hosting all the delegates, in Germany 2022.
